HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
The Jersey County Highway Department is responsible for planning, design, construction and maintenance of all the bridges and roads in the Jersey County Highway System. In addition to constructing and maintaining the 120 miles of roads and 29 bridges on the County Highway System, the department assists the 11 townships of Jersey County in the construction and maintenance of their 378 miles of highways and 56 bridges.
Maintenance activities include: Sealcoat: Oil & Chipping, Pothole Patching, Culvert Repairs and Replacements, Shoulder Repairs, Sign Maintenance, Regrading Ditches, Mowing and Trimming, Snow and Ice Removal
Road & Bridge Committee
The Road & Bridge Committee oversees the Highway Department and the construction and maintenance of all county highways, motor fuel tax, roads and bridges.
The Road and Bridge Committee minutes are preliminary until approved at the following month’s meeting.
The Road and Bridge Committee meets the first Tuesday of the month. The meetings are held at 8:00 A.M. at the Jersey County Highway Department, 722 State Highway 16, Jerseyville, IL.
