OUTDOOR RECREATION
Enjoy picnics, fishing, camping, biking, hiking, and hunting in Jersey County. The County has the benefit of a public golf course at Wolves Crossing Golf Club. Cool down from the summer heat at the swimming complex at the Jerseyville City Park or Raging Rivers Water Park in Grafton. Enthusiasts can bike along the Sam Vadalabene Bike Trail, or go horseback riding, boating or watch the bald eagles at Pere Marquette State Park. Adventurists can enjoy parasailing and the zipline in Grafton.
HISTORIC INTERESTS
Jersey County Courthouse, built in 1893-94, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Book a tour of the historic Cheney Mansion, home of the Jersey County Historical Society. Union Forest Church, Lone Star School, and McAdams Log Cabin are also located in the Society’s complex. The Hamilton School, located in Otterville, is the first free school in the State of Illinois and the first integrated school in the nation. Take in the historic beauty and architecture of the Village of Elsah.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Great River Road runs along the south and west edges of Jersey County. It is part of the Great Rivers Scenic Byway and runs through Grafton. Local events include the Apple Fest, Pioneer Rendezvous, Harvest Fest, Grafton Rendezvous & Fall Boat Classic, and the Olden Days Festival. The Jersey County Fair features games, carnival rides, great food, unique shows, and great entertainment in front of the grandstand each night. The Victorian Festival features a Civil War reenactment.
